First Team Finish The Season With A Draw

The First Team finished their season last Saturday with a 1-1 draw against Broughton Amateurs FC

In what was Jason Smith’s last game in charge of the First Team, The Reds were fired up to get the 3 points.

In difficult, windy conditions, they dominated the first quarter of the game & after missing a few earlier chances, they finally took a lead with a fantastic breakaway goal. The ball was won in midfield by 17 year old George Fewtrell and it found it’s way to the right hand side where George Carrington played Lewis Bannister in behind the Broughton backline. Lewis squared the ball perfectly for Jonjo Richardson to tap in for his first goal of the season.

Corinthians came out the second half and struggled to get back into their stride, allowing Broughton to grow into the game. 10 minutes from time, Broughton managed to find an equaliser with a shot that evaded all reds shirts and nestled in the corner. Broughton thought they had won it with a very late strike but referee John Kelly ruling that it hadn’t crossed the line.

The point sees the First Team finish the season on 28 points. They will be hoping that results go their way and that they will have secured a 4th place finish for the second year running.

Massive thank you to Jason Smith for his time managing the senior setup. He started off bringing his U18’s team through to be the clubs Reserve team. After multiple league titles, he was promoted to First Team Manager and managed to get them back up into the Premier Division & has consolidated their place in the top league

He will be greatly missed on the sideline but will still be down to support The Reds in the future.

A big shout out to all club members & locals who came down to Carr Lane to show their support. It was a great sight seeing Carr Lane so busy. The First Team really appreciated the extra support!
